History and Alumni
"Now, what really makes a teacher is love for the human child; for it is love that transforms the social duty of the educator into the higher consciousness of a mission."
by Maria Montessori
Paint Branch Montessori School (PBMS), was established in 1975 on Powder Mill Road, Adelphi. This campus has the distinction of a very distinguished alumni - Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google who attended up to grade 6.
In 2002, Mrs. Grover took over the reins of the school in a partnership. Within two years of taking over, a fire in the leased space, Article in Washington Post caused a move away from the original campus.
In 2012, another move necessitated by the Church Board brought us to the New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring Campus. The business partnership dissolved in 2017 and PBMS students were the winners of the fabulous education that we now continue to provide on our new campus on 63 cares at 2410 Spencerville Road, Spencerville, MD 20868.
All along, inspiration has come from resilience. The strong conviction that we have to provide the community of students with natural and intentional opportunities for independence, citizenship, and accountability. This is a critical undertaking of love and service in a world increasingly unsettled and fraught with COVID 19.
