ELEMENTARY PROGRAM
Grades: 1 - 6

MATH
Montessori math materials are carefully designed to enable the student to discover and learn mathematical concepts concretely. After the concepts have been learned with the use of materials, the student is then able to easily understand abstract numerical concepts. Thus mathematical skills follow readily from hands-on experiences.
LANGUAGE ARTS
In Montessori classrooms, language is presented in a context or body of information, rather than in isolation of other material. In both oral and written form, language is viewed primarily as a vehicle to communicate ideas and feelings, whose form alters with the purpose for which they are used.

SCIENCE, HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY
These academic subjects are designed to give students knowledge about the development of the solar system, the earth and its configurations, life on earth, the needs of plants and animals, the development of man, early civilizations, and recorded history. Other related subjects are offered following the interests of the children.
FIELD TRIPS
To enhance learning the Elementary curriculum includes participating in monthly field trips. Some of the places we have visited include: the Kennedy Center, Imagination Stage, the Audubon Society, the Natural History Museum, the Washington Zoo and the National Museum of The Native American.
